More info: Stavanger is one of the largest cities in Norway and the administrative center of Rogaland county. The city has 16 inhabited islands and most of these are connected by bridge to the mainland.
The main economic activities of Stavanger are shipbuilding and shipping, together with the refining of North Sea oil, which was first drilled in 1971. Stavanger became the centre for all service activities connected with Norway’s North Sea oil and gas industry.
Stavanger is just a short boat ride from the stunning, 42-km (26-mile) Lysefjord which has Deep blue waters, sheer cliffs and mountains soaring more than 1000 m (3,300 ft). Lysefjord was shaped over thousands of years by ice, pressure and time, leaving behind some of Norway’s most striking geological landmarks.
