More info: The square called Piazza Venezia, is located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome.

The Piazza Venezia takes its name from Palazzo Venezia, the building constructed in the 15th century by Pietro Barbo and donated by Pius VI to the Republic of Venice for its diplomatic headquarters.

Between 1929 and 1943, Palazzo Venezia was the seat of the Head of Government and the Great Council of Fascism: from its historic balcony, Mussolini made his famous speeches. Part of the building incorporates the Basilica of San Marco. In the corner between the Palace and the Palazzetto is placed the bust of "Madame Lucrezia," one of the famous Roman talking statues.

Today, the building is home to the National Institute of Archaeology and History of Art and the National Museum of Palazzo Venezia.

Also within Piazza Venezia, is Palazzo Bonaparte, where Letizia Ramolino, Napoleon's mother, lived from 1818 until her death.
