Montefalco has been an important municipality since Roman times due to its dominant position above the valley connecting Spoleto and Perugia.
The webcam shows the Piazza del Comune (Town Square) which is the highest point of the city.
More info: Known as "the balcony of Umbria" because of its lofty position and views over the fertile plain below, Montefalco is the centre of the Sagrantino wine zone. Its picturesque position looks out over the Clitunno, Topino and Tevere valleys. From its panoramic view points one can admire the celebrated village and cities of Umbria, and the valley described by Saint Francis who said: "There is nothing more delightful to the eye than my Spoleto valley."
Montefalco is surrounded by twelfth century walls and designed so that all roads lead to the beautiful Piazza or town square. Just off the main square the fifteenth century former Church of St. Francis, now home to the Civic Museum hosts the fresco cycle of the life of St Francis painted by Benozzo Gozzoli. This is one of the “must visits” in Montefalco.
