More info: The part of Ibiza Town which is the old quarter, is known as the Dalt Vila and is surrounded by a wall built in the 16th century to protect the city from pirates and the Ottomans. Steep cobbled streets and whitewashed houses lead up to Plaza de la Catedral, the highest part of the Dalt Vila which has exceptional views.
Dalt Vila has many interesting and beautiful monuments such as its 13th-century Cathedral, the Plaza de la Vila square, the bastions of the wall, the 16th century Church of Santo Domingo and the Town Hall, located in an old Dominican Convent. Dalt Vila is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
At the foot of Dalt Vila, the port area consists of the old fisherman quarters as well as a modern seafront promenade. There are many small boutiques, hippy stalls and bars and restaurants playing outdoor music well in to the night.
At the far end of the port, you will find the LGBTQIA-friendly street called Calle de la virgen.
On the other side of the harbour, are the yacht marinas of Marina Botafoch and Ibiza Nueva, hubs for the rich and famous. Impressive boats line the jetties and yacht owners dine in the exclusive restaurants there. Marina Botafoch is also home to the world-famous Pacha which was the first super-club on the island and opened in 1973.
