Following the very sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen on September 8th, 2022, the Union flag was at half mast whilst a framed plaque announcing the Queen’s passing was placed on the front gates by the royal household staff.

More info: Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years, having been crowned in 1952 and was Great Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

Her 70 years of service put the Queen seven years ahead of the second longest-reigning monarch, Queen Victoria, whose reign lasted 63 years.

Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne was on February 6th, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI, who was crowned King after his brother Edward VIII abdicated.

Her Majesty will be remembered for an incredible lifetime of dedicated service and commitment and her passing prompted public displays of grief around the world.

Succeeding Queen Elizabeth II is her eldest son, Charles, who is now King Charles III - the first Charles to sit on the throne since 1685.

Her majesty will also be remembered for her excellent sense of humour which can be appreciated in the clip made below for her Platinum Jubilee. As Paddington says "Thank you ma'am....for everything "
