    Hamas fired thousands of rockets toward Israel and an estimated 1,000 fighters crossed into the country from the neighboring Gaza Strip, on October 7th, 2023. Hamas fighters entered Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,400 people, and taking scores of hostages.
