More info: The Salt River runs west through the northern part of the city of Tempe and part of the river is dammed in two places to create Tempe Town Lake. Once, riverboats delivered grain to be ground at the historic Hayden Flour Mill but nowadays, visitors come for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and a host of other activities and events.
Mill Avenue and Downtown Tempe are the historic and commercial heartbeat of the city, with bustling nightlife, local dining, rooftop bars, and boutique shopping right next to the University campus.
Close-by is Papago Park - a desert preserve featuring iconic red sandstone formations sa well as miles of scenic hiking and mountain biking trails.
