More info: Pachuca , formally known as Pachuca de Soto, is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Hidalgo. Pachuca is located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) from Mexico City. Pachuca has the nickname of “ La bella airosa ” (Beautiful Airy City) which comes from the strong winds that blow into the valley through the canyons to the north of the city.
The city of Pachuca occupies a small valley and is almost completely surrounded by large hills, which are also covered in colourful housing. The city centre has maintained most of its colonial-era structures, with narrow winding streets and the Monumental Clock of Pachuca is the icon of the city. It is a tower with four parts in Neoclassic style, constructed of white “cantera” stone with a height of 40 meters. The Monumental Clock was built in 1904 and its bell was manufactured by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, the same company that made the Liberty Bell and London’s Big Ben.
