More info: Manhattan is a borough and an island in New York City bounded by the Hudson River (to the west), by the East River (to the east) and Harlem (to the north). The total area of Manhattan is only 23 square miles which makes it the most densely populated borough of New York City. It is diverse, with ethnic groups ranging from Chinese and African-American to Puerto Rican and Irish.

Manhattan is usually divided into sections of uptown, midtown and downtown. Uptown Manhattan, next to and above Central Park, is mostly residential, while Midtown is the city's business center and downtown Manhattan is home to the Financial District (Wall Street) and one of the nation's largest Chinatowns.

The longest north-south thoroughfare, Broadway, runs from Lower Manhattan to the Bronx. Manhattan has some iconic architecture, particularly its Art Deco skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. Of the 50 most expensive neighbourhoods in New York City, over half are in Manhattan.
