More info: The Town of Minocqua in Wisconsin, has a long and interesting history, dating back to 1889. Officially organized in 1889, the town has evolved from its historical roots as a prominent Northwoods logging center into a flourishing all year round tourist destination.
Minocqua is located on a peninsula on Minocqua Lake and the Minocqua area has one of the largest concentrations of fresh water bodies in the world and offers world-class fishing, leisure boating, water skiing and more. Renowned as one of the "Best Fishing Towns in America" by Field and Stream, anglers fish for musky, walleye, bass, and northern pike across more than 70 area lakes.
Wisconsin has more than 15,000 lakes and 13,500 miles (21,700 kilometers) of navigable streams and rivers. Almost 3 percent of Wisconsin’s area—nearly a million acres (405,000 hectares)—is lakes. Wisconsin has more than 500,000 registered motorboats—about one for every 10 residents.
