More info: The Cookeville Depot Museum is a popular attraction which is located in the heart of Cookeville’s historic west side district. It has a collection of train cars, railroad memorabilia and an HO scale replica of what Cookeville’s west side looked like in the summer of 1955.

The Nashville and Knoxville Railroad constructed the first railroad depot at Cookeville in the 1890s. The presence of the railroad depot led to a boom in housing construction in Cookeville. Residences were built along or near the tracks, and a shanty town known as "Boxtown" developed in the vicinity of what is now Cookeville Regional Medical Centre.
