More info: Semmering is a town in the district of Neunkirchen in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is famous for its skiing, and has hosted the Alpine skiing World Cup several times.

The Semmering Railway was constructed between 1848 and 1854 over 41 km of high mountains. Travelling through spectacular scenery and with tunnels and viaducts it was one of the greatest feats of civil engineering during the pioneering phase of railway building. The railway made the area more accessible and developed it into an area of recreational and residential use.
