More Info: Ryde is an English seaside town on the north-east coast of the Isle of Wight. It lies opposite Portsmouth on the mainland, with stunning views across the Solent. The Solent is a busy Shipping channel used by a diverse range of vessels, including container vessels and tankers, passenger ferries, and military vessels such as the Royal Navy's warships, as well as recreational boating. The Solent is famous for hosting the interational sailing event Cowes Week.
The Solent is the only place in Western Europe where there is a regular hovercraft passenger service, run by Hovertravel, which operates between the mainland and Ryde.
