The building of the Sagrada Familia commenced with Antoni Gaudi in 1883 when he was juts 31 years old. The project made Gaudi world famous and allowed him to be known as the master of modern architecture. Gaudi worked to build this unique temple, until his death in 1926.
Work on the Sagrada Familia is directly financed by donations made by visitors and the public. Gaudí even once said "the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and this is reflected in it. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people".
Construction of the Sagrada Familia continues today and its completion is scheduled for 2026, a date symbolic of the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death.
