More info: The harbour settlement of Purlock Weir is around 1.5 miles west of the inland village of Porlock. The harbour was built in 1422 and throughout history, there has been a constant struggle to keep the narrow tidal entrance free of shingle.
Porlock Weir harbour has been in use for centuries and today it provudes a safe haven for pleasure boats and small fishing vessels. Visitors are offered the chance to go crabbing, fishing, book a boat trip or go back in time in one of Porlock Weir’s pilot gigs.
Porlock Weir Boat Shed Museum is packed with information and artefacts collated by local fisherman, photographer and historian, Derek Purvis.
Oysters from Porlock Bay are sold in season near the tidal quay.
The South West Coastal Path which starts in nearby Minehead passes through Porlock Weir.
