More info: The Raz de Sein is a stretch of water located between the Isle of Sein and the Pointe du Raz. It is a very dangerous zone for navigation due to the violent sea currents from the tides causing the sea to rise quickly.

La Vieille ("The Old Lady" or "The Wrass") is a lighthouse located in the département of Finistère at the commune of Plogoff. It sits on the rock known as Gorlebella (Breton for "farthest rock"), and guides ships in the strait Raz de Sein, along with its companion lighthouse Tourelle de la Plate—also known as Petite Vieille ("Little Old Woman").

The lighthouse was completed in 1887 . It took 5 years to build as work could only take place for half of the year due to fierce tides. It was the last French lighthouse to be automated in 1995. The light is occulting, with a range of 18 nautical miles (33 km); a foghorn was installed in the early twentieth century.
