The first bridge across the Eau Gallie River was built in 1895. It wasn’t until 1924 that the first bridge across the Indian River at Eau Gallie was built. In 1907, the Eau Gallie Yacht Club was formed as yachting became more and more popular in the area. In 1910, the Eau Gallie Yacht Club built a clubhouse along the river and remained at that location until 1960

The name Eau Gallie is French for “rocky water” and refers to the coquina rocks along the shore of the Indian River Lagoon. Eau Gallie joined with the City of Melbourne in 1969, but locals still call it Eau Gallie.
