He purchased Bird Key in 1906 and built the mansion for his wife. Circus mogul John Ringling purchased the home and the rest of Bird Key in 1922, and his sister lived in the home until 1950. In 1959 the mansion was replaced by the elegant new Bird Key Yacht Club.
