More info: Fort Morgan, also known as Fort Bowyer, is in Baldwin County and is west of Gulf Shores on Mobile Point. Fort Morgan Stands guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II, the site showcases the evolution of seacoast fortifications and adaptations made by the U.S. Army for the defense of the country. In 1946 the site was turned over to the State of Alabama as a historic site.
Fort Morgan Beach is one of Alabama's most beautiful beaches and deep-sea fishing is one of Fort Morgan Beach's most popular activities. The best times to visit are March through May and September through November - outside the busier and more expensive summer season but when swimming in the Gulf of Mexico still offers pleasant temperatures.
