More info: Lamai Beach on Koh Samui is located on the east side of the island and with a length of 4 kilometers it is one of the longest sand beaches on the island. Koh Samui is located off the east coast of Thailand and is Thailand's second largest island after Phuket. To the far west of Koh Samui, are 44 other islands which together compose Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park which is accessible by a day-trip boat tour from Ko Samui.
The rocky formations of Hin Yai and Hin Ta ( grandmother and grandfather) at Lami Beach are perhaps the most photographed attractions. The rocks have an uncanny resemblance to male and female genitalia. Located by the Hua Thanon fishing village, the rocks, according to legend, are the shipwrecked bodies of an elderly couple that turned to stone.
Ko Samui's economy is based primarily on the tourist industry, as well as exports of coconut and rubber.
