More info: The village of Islamorada is made up of six islands of the Florida Keys and is situated between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park and the deep blue waters of the Florida Strait. The collection of islands measures only 20 miles long and, in some places, barley 150 feet wide.
Due to its placing between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, which is on the migration route of many large fish species, Islamorada is informally known as the Sportfishing Capital of the World. Bonefishing and sailfishing are two popular types of Islamorada fishing. There are many fishing tournaments held each year with these species as the target. These are catch-and-release tournaments, but there are plenty of other fish to be caught on the reefs and wrecks.
