More info: 2.7 million people live in Kiev in Ukraine. Traffic volumes are rising fast and congestion on the busiest routes into Kiev city centre, needs to be eased. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided Kievdorservice, the municipal traffic management agency, with a €15 million loan that will help pay for a package of traffic management systems.
The systems to be introduced include automated speed control and enforcement, variable message signage, in-pavement traffic sensors, CCTV and rapid emergency response systems. With these technologies, Kievdorservice should be able to manage traffic more effectively, improve air quality through lower congestion levels and increase road safety on some 20 km of the city’s main arteries.
